JetBlue takes off from Providence, Rhode Island to the Sunshine State

NEW YORK, NY

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Today JetBlue Airways brightened the day in Rhode Island with the announcement of service to the Sunshine State from the 75th destination in its growing route network: the capital city of Providence. Governor Lincoln Chafee, Rhode Island Airport Corporation Board Chair Dr. Kathleen Hittner, and top leaders of government, the business community and travel and tourism officials joined JetBlue’s President and CEO Dave Barger at a press event on the steps of the state capitol this morning to reveal JetBlue’s intent to serve T.F. Green International Airport (PVD), with twice daily nonstop service to Orlando International Airport (MCO) and one daily flight to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FLL) in Florida beginning Thursday, November 29, 2012.

To commemorate the addition of BlueCity no. 75, today through Wed., Aug. 1 customers can book flights between Providence and Orlando or Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood for as low as $75 one way at www.jetblue.com/new (a). The special fares are available for travel between Nov. 29 and Dec. 12, 2012.

“Over the last decade, customers across New England have selected JetBlue as their go-to travel partner, opting for our award-winning service and unbeatable product offerings over others at airports like Boston, Burlington, Hartford and Portland,” said Mr. Barger. “With our new nonstop service to Florida from Providence, we are providing even more options for an easy-access airport to the places our customers want to go, and we believe this added convenience will introduce and foster even more loyal fans of JetBlue throughout the Ocean State.”

“I am proud to welcome JetBlue Airways to Rhode Island,” Governor Lincoln Chafee said. “The addition of JetBlue will have positive effects throughout the state: T.F. Green customers will have more flight options, the airport will enjoy the addition of new air service and jobs, and Rhode Island will continue to build its reputation as a great place to do business. JetBlue service makes T.F. Green Airport, in the heart of Warwick’s growing transportation hub and regional connectivity, an even more appealing option for the traveling public.”

“I want to particularly thank JetBlue CEO Dave Barger,” Governor Chafee continued. “Since I visited him at his office in New York in August of last year, we have maintained good communication in working to bring JetBlue to Rhode Island. This announcement is happening in large part thanks to Dave and his fantastic team.”

The airline and guests were treated to a warm Rhode Island welcome with a performance by Grammy Award-winning Rhode Island band Roomful of Blues, cups of Del’s frozen blueberry lemonade, and a custom JetBlue cake handcrafted by Johnson & Wales School of Culinary Arts staff as mascots of RI sports teams greeted guests. With a nod to the local community, JetBlue’s uniformed crewmembers, all Rhode Island natives, lined the State House steps during the announcement.

“We are pleased to welcome JetBlue to our community and know that they will be an excellent addition to the services offered at T.F. Green,” said City of Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian. “With today’s economy, it’s particularly important that travelers have the affordable options and good customer service that JetBlue offers its customers. We look forward to JetBlue’s success here in Warwick.”

“This day has been a long time in the making as our staff has had countless meetings courting the airline over the years,” stated Dr. Kathleen Hittner, Rhode Island Airport Corporation Board Chair. “We are proud to welcome JetBlue to the existing family of air carriers currently serving T.F. Green Airport. JetBlue is a strong and respected brand in the aviation industry and we look forward to working together to establish and grow its presence and in the Rhode Island market.”
