Egzotični okusi Angosture Trinidada i Tobaga

Trinidad and Tobago has long been known for exotic flavors, the legacy of a melting pot of ethnicities and cultures.

Trinidad and Tobago has long been known for exotic flavors, the legacy of a melting pot of ethnicities and cultures. Tasty delicacies such as Curried Crab and Dumplings, Bake and Shark and Doubles have placed this twin-island nation on the world’s “must have foods” map, so it is little surprise that Angostura Limited, based in Trinidad, has earned an international reputation for producing some of the world’s finest alcoholic beverages.

Boasting the world’s most awarded range of rums, Angostura is on track to earning another accolade with Angostura Legacy, which is already being described as the greatest sipping rum ever produced. Developed by Angostura’s Master Blenders, the Legacy project took six years to complete and is a unique blend of rums, mixed by hand. Because of the meticulous process the vintage is limited to only twenty bottles throughout the world.

The golden blend, however, is not the only special element, as the decanter itself is of exquisite craftsmanship. Angostura engaged the services of Asprey of London, jeweler to the Prince of Wales, to design the crystal decanters, each of which took 56 hours to complete.

Based on an art-deco style popularized by Czech luxury glass manufacturer Moser, each decanter is hand blown, annealed, and then hand cut into four wide tongue shapes that make up the squared base which is signed on the underside. The decanters had to be accurately shaped to accommodate the precision engineered sterling silver collar. The stopper is also sterling silver and artistically shaped to represent waving fronds of sugar cane. Placed on top of the arrow of sugar cane is a rare butterfly, which is the motif of this particular rum. Not to be outdone, the exquisitely hand-crafted red leather presentation case ensures that whoever owns this treasure can protect it well, while showing it off in style.

Valued at US$25,000 per bottle, Legacy by Angostura is undoubtedly one of the world’s most expensive blends. It is no surprise, therefore, that the recipe, similar to the iconic Angostura Bitters, is a closely-guarded secret and, therefore, impossible to replicate. The first bottle was already auctioned off in Australia and a similar event was held on August 4, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

With such a legacy for one-of-a-kind blends, tours to the House of Angostura, where the Angostura museum is located, remains a popular tourist attraction, particularly during the cruise ship season.
