TAIPEI, Taiwan – Taiwan-based EVA Airways Co. (EVA Air) was ranked fifth in a list of the world’s 60 safest airlines in 2013 selected by Aero International, a German monthly devoted to civil aviation.
The top five on the list, published on the Jan. 17 issue of the magazine, are Air New Zealand, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Emirates, and EVA Air in the order.
EVA Air said it has been selected as one of the world’s 10 safest airlines by Aero International for 10 years in a row. The fifth-place ranking is the best record the company has had in a decade, it said.
Aero International produces the ranking every year with the assistance of Germany’s Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre.
Evaluation is conducted on over 800 airlines around the world based on analyses of information from flight years, statistics of major incidents over the past 10 years and crash data over the past three decades.
Earlier this month, EVA Air has been ranked as one of world’s 10 safest airlines in 2013 by the website AirlineRatings.com.
Others among the top 10 are Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Royal Jordanian, Singapore Airlines, Qantas and Virgin Atlantic.
