KARACHI, Pakista – Thousands of passengers remained stranded at the airports across country after some 56 flights were delayed while several domestic and international flights cancelled following the assassination of Pakistan International Airline (PIA)’s CBA Union President Aamir Shah late Saturday evening.

Sources told Daily Times that the unionists of PIA after hearing the news silently left their duty places at airport counters leaving the passengers unattended. Since 08:00pm yesterday (Saturday), Jinnah Terminal’s booking office, aircrews briefing room and passenger counters at Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad airports were closed which resulted in the delay of local and international flights to Dubai, Manchester, London, Dammam and Abu Dhabi.

Passengers remained stranded and haplessly waiting for their flights. An aggravated family informed that their confirmed seats had been given to the PIA CBA office-bearers on a Lahore-Karachi bound flight. According to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)’s flights schedule, about 56 flights have been delayed and cancelled since the wee hours of Saturday.

Many flights at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi are either delayed or cancelled including the domestic and international flights. The PIA management seemed handicapped to avoid massive delays and cancellations of flights.

A source said that the PIA management especially called some PIA officials to reschedule the flights which were to be departed on Sunday and Monday after 02:00pm. All flights within and outside the country will be late by five hours. After an interval, PIA MD Nadeem Khan Yousufzai regretted the inconvenience faced by passengers due to the disruption of flights.

On the other hand, passengers demanded unconditional apology from PIA management as they (PIA management) failed to cope up with the situation in such a non-professional manner. Later, after the burial of Aamir Shah in Model Colony graveyard, the flight schedule gradually started towards normalisation.
